Jats’A-já Festival 2013 - Riviera Maya

Jats’A-já Festival 2013

Festival Jats' A-já

From August 16th to August 18th, 2013, the sixth annual Jats’A-já will be held in the ecotourism village of Mahahual in Quintana Roo.

The festival’s Mayan name means “hit of water“, and is used because in the year 2007 Hurricane Dean destroyed the town almost completely. Year after year the people celebrate this event as a blessing for the “rebirth” of the village, as they were able to continue to overcome it and move forward.

During these three days of music, art and folklore various events are held, such as:

– Blessing of the sea and nautical procession
– Volleyball tournament
– Recycled art and digital photography contest
– “Ironman” obstacle course competition
– Cuisine in various restaurants
– Lion fish tournament
– Sand castle competition
– Live shows
– Discotec
– Closing ceremony and much, much more.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about and get to know Mexican culture on these ancestral lands!
