A tour through Pac-Chén

Un tour por Pac-Chén en Riviera Maya

Within the area of Quintana Roo state, Mexico, there is a town that preserves the cultural traditions of the Mayan civilization: Pac-Chén. This community of barely 150 inhabitants, is located in the municipality of Lazaro Cardenas and has a wide reputation thanks to the friendliness of its people, who always welcome you with a big smile.

The commitment of these Mayan successors, is instituting Nature Conservation; therefore they follow closely alignment of their practices towards Ecotourism and Sustainability of the site. But, why is it that such a small community attracts so much attention and interest from people around the world? Well, this is because people of Pac-Chén offer a guided tour that begins with a Mayan ritual of purification and protection for tourists and visitors, followed by loads of fun and excitement.

So, let’s begin the tour: If adventure is your motto, submerge in a journey of exhilarating activities surrounded by nature: kayak excursions, swimming in a lagoon, extraordinary sceneries and close encounters with Nature will make the deal for you. On the other hand, extreme sports lovers and adrenaline junkies can enjoy circuits of zip-lines and abseiling.

Last but not least, one of the biggest attractions for visitors is “Cenote del Jaguar” (Jaguar’s Natural Well), where you have to rappel 42.5 feet down the cenote to enjoy the activities waiting: diving on the clear waters, swimming and snorkeling, besides the chilling effect of being in the depths of a millenary sanctuary.

The easiest way to arrive to this community is taking the Federal highway Cancun-Merida to the community of X-Can, then take the diversion to Coba, Tulum: a 12.5 mile drive before getting to the 5-mile dirt road that leads to Pac-Chén.

You will never regret planning a visit to this absolutely amazing community. Expect to be surprised!
