July Festivals in Playa del Carmen Celebrate Our City All Month

Many travelers might think summer is the slow season in Riviera Maya – but not the locals! Playa del Carmen festivals

Día de la Virgen del Carmen

July 16th

Known throughout Latin America and Spain as the Virgen del Carmen Festival and the Feast / Fiesta of the Virgen del Carmen, this is a very special holiday here in Playa del Carmen. As our city name implies, the Virgen del Carmen is our patron saint. Like most cities in Mexico, this means we honor the day with copious amounts of celebrating, from special church services to parades in the street, BBQs on the beach, and colorful parties at bars and clubs across town. In fact, you can expect at least 10 days and nights of celebrating with free concerts, circus acts, arts, crafts, rides, and restaurant specials, likely running July 8-17th this year.

Celebrate Solidaridad’s 23rd Anniversary

July 28th

You’re probably thinking, what is Solidaridad? While you’ve likely noted that both Playa and Cancún are in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, the cities are in different municipios, or counties. Ours is Solidaridad, established on July 28th, 1993. Why is that so special here in Playa? Because we are its capital! That’s why you can expect more celebrating across the city, with live music, dancing, local arts and eats. Much like during the Virgen del Carmen Festival, keep your eyes out for uniquely regional art, tasty honey candies called melcocha, tejocotes (Mexican crab apple syrup), and piping hot arepas, or Columbian hotcakes made of corn and topped with cheese.
