Where to camp in Cancun?

Things to do

If you are traveling in low budget, camping is a great idea for saving money. Camping is one of the favorite choices for travelers in love with outdoors and recreational activities. This activity may involve sheltering in the open air, a tent, a caravan, a motorhome, or a primitive structure.

If you are traveling to Cancun, you must bring your tent and sleeping bag. If you will need food and other requirements you can easily get them in a supermarket of Cancun.

There are really specific places where you can camp in Cancun, this is because most of all beaches have hotels and departments seashore. In this article I will tell you where to camp in Cancun.

Isla Blanca

Isla Blanca is a hidden beach in Cancun that most tourists don’t know. The name says is an island but it is not. This is actually a peninsula. You can tell this area is just ripe for development but for now it remains an isolated strip of land that has the Nichupte Lagoon on one side and the Caribbean sea on the other.

If you want to camp in Isla Blanca, just at the entrance you are going to find some beach cabins that cost about 40 USD per night for 4-5 people. This is  a great place to spend time with your friends. At night, be prepared with your firewood and fish that you  catch in the ocean. You will probably spend all night cooking your fish in the firewood, singing songs, telling your friends a terror story you had once, etc.. until the sun comes up and see the beautiful sunrise of Isla Blanca!

Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos is a beach located on the other side of Isla Blanca. You must take Riviera Maya highway and 10 minutes before getting to Playa del Carmen, you will see Puerto Morelos on the left. This town is a stunning place for lovers of beach and relaxation but also a bohemian style. The camping in Puerto Morelos is at Reef Cabanas & Beach Bar, a hotel made of cabins next to the caribbean sea. The atmosphere is unique, simple, charming and comfortable. It is also a eco-hotel trying to improve in recycling and other activities to help the world to be a better place. A very good reason to choose Reef Cabanas & Beach Bar is because you have the Second Largest Reef in the world right just in front of the cabins.

Xpuha

If you want to go camping by yourself with no hotel or place already stable, just the beach and your cabin, you must go to Xpuha. You can also rent a tent for about 15 USD or less per person. Xpuha is a beautiful place on the coast and the little beach bars are really friendly because there are no shops, you will have to rely on these beach bars.

Tulum

Tulum is my favorite place to go Camping because it offers a really charming atmosphere. Almost all the hotels of Tulum are rustic, even the 5 stars. There are tents close to a cenote called Encantada where you can camp. There are also some very rustic twig cabins at Zazil Kin quite close to the ruins and I’m sure you could rent one and camp inside the cabin or nearby if you ask.

At Tulum you can choose many options and the prices vary, I would recommend you to choose a not to expensive hotel next to the beach and you are probably going to have a great experience, very much alike if you would camp but with benefits that the hotels offer.
