Traveling to the beach with young children can be a wonderful experience, but it also requires some planning to avoid inconveniences during your vacation. Here are some tips on what to pack in your bag when traveling with your little ones.

Sunscreen

Children’s skin is more delicate and vulnerable to the harmful effects of the sun. Sunscreen helps block UV rays, prevent sunburns, and reduce the risk of skin diseases. Consult your pediatrician for the best options, so your children can enjoy the beach with peace of mind.

Towels

This may sound like typical advice, but sometimes haste causes us to forget essential items like towels. Also, remember to pack a change of clothes in case the kids get wet or dirty.

Footwear and lightweight clothing

Sandals or water shoes protect children’s feet from hot sand and sharp objects on the beach. Also, consider bringing lightweight, breathable clothing in light colors to keep your kids cool and protect their skin while remaining comfortable.

Hygiene items

To maintain their health and comfort, be sure to pack soap, shampoo, wet wipes, moisturizer, a comb or brush, and hand sanitizer. Consider travel-sized kits if you’re worried about these items taking up too much space in your bag.

Blanket

An excellent idea for lying on the sand, as it will help you enjoy a clean and comfortable spot for your children to sit without getting dirty. When choosing a blanket, look for one large enough for everyone, water-resistant, and easy to clean.

Beach toys

In addition to entertaining and fun, beach toys stimulate children’s creativity and imagination. Include toys such as buckets, shovels, and molds for the kids to enjoy in the sand.

Snacks and water

Bring enough to keep the kids hydrated and energized. We recommend choosing healthy options like fresh fruits, cereal bars, nuts, or whole-grain cookies.

First aid items

Be sure to have bandages and ointments on hand in case of cuts, scratches, insect bites, or other minor mishaps.

Plastic bags

They can have different uses, such as storing wet or dirty clothes, keeping objects dry and protected from the sand, or even collecting garbage to keep the beach clean. We suggest using sturdy, reusable plastic bags to reduce environmental impact and contribute to beach conservation.

Swim vest or life jacket

Safety first, especially if your kids are not proficient swimmers. These items help children leave their fears behind and move around freely. There’s nothing like the peace of mind of knowing your kids will always be protected.

Sunglasses

Not only will they look cool for souvenir photos, but also remember that children’s eyes are more sensitive to intense sunlight, so it’s important to protect them. Sunglasses with UV protection reduce the risk of eye problems, prevent glare, and improve visual comfort in bright environments.

Swim diaper

If you’re traveling with your baby, it’s essential to pack swim diapers in your bag. They are designed to retain solid waste without swelling in the water, allowing your little one to enjoy the sea without the risk of leaks. Additionally, they are known for being comfortable, stretchy, and quick-drying.

If you’re concerned about these items taking up too much space or adding extra weight to your backpack, you can purchase more compact and lightweight versions at supermarkets and stores at the resort where you are staying.

With these tips, you can enjoy a day at the beach in the Riviera Maya with your children safely and enjoyably. Enjoy the sea and the sand!
